Conference Wide Garber, Marilyn [1], Jess, Robin A. [2], Tangerini, Alice [3]. ASBA Panel Discussion - Working with a Botanical Artist. Alice Tangerini, Botanical Illustrator for the Smithsonian Institute and Marilyn Garber of the Minnesota School of Botanical Art have worked on numerous illustration projects with botanists. They will share best practices, tips and advice on ways to make projects proceed smoothly and with the desired result. A botanist (TBD) who has worked with artists will be on the panel as well. A handout of tips from member artists of the American Society of Botanical Artists will be provided. The American Society of Botanical Artists (ASBA) is a nonprofit organization of nearly 1200 contemporary botanical artists, collectors and botanists primarily in the US, but around the world as well. Our offices are generously provided by The New York Botanical Garden. ASBA exhibitions have been shown there as well as at MOBOT, Chicago Botanic Garden, Kew Gardens, London, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History and others. ASBA is dedicated to promoting public awareness of contemporary botanical art. A component of ASBA’s vision is to acknowledge the power of botanical art to communicate the importance of plants to our world whether through conservation, science, horticulture or agriculture.
