Evolutionary Developmental Biology (Evo-Devo) Gleissberg, Stefan [1]. Leaf and flower developmental regulation in the basal eudicot family Papaveraceae – an overview of recent research. Eschscholzia californica is one of a few members of the basal eudicot family Papaveraceae in which functional studies, using virus-induced gene silencing, have become available in recent years. This talk reviews some major insights that these studies have provided, and what prospects for future evo-devo research in basal eudicots can be envisioned. Specifically, the role of YABBY, AINTEGUMENTA, class I KNOX, and CINCINNATA-like TCP genes in leaf development is addressed. Further, insights into poppy flower development are reported from studies of MADS box, FLORICAULA, KNOX, and PHANTASTICA genes. Broader Impacts:
