Comparative genomics and lineage specific gene expression in the genus Linum..

Opportunities for lineage-specific gene analysis and other types of comparative genomics are afforded by the recently completed whole-genome assembly of cultivated flax (Linum usitatissimum; Wang et al., Plant J. 2012), and additional sequence resources including transcriptome assembllies of ten other Linum species obtained through our One Thousand Plants project (onekp.com). The Illumina-sequenced transcriptomes are from vegetative shoots of the follwing species: L. bienne, L. flavum, L. hirsutum, L. leonii, L. lewisii, L. macraei, L. perenne, L. strictum, L. tenuifolium. We present here the our analysis of these transcriptomes including features that are apparently unique to the genus Linum and species therein.
