Organisms as Ecosystems: Exploring the Microbiome of Plants

Organisms as Ecosystems: Exploring the Microbiome of Plants.

There has been a recent surge in research of the microbiome of plants... from pathogens to symbionts, fellow plants, even animals [consider the tardygrades that live inside lichens!]. What role do these bacterial, fungal, and other endophytes play? How do they benefit or harm their plant host? How do host and microbiome communicate with one another, or do they? This colloquium invites speakers who study the complex world-within-plants to answer these, and other, questions regarding the diversity and ecology of the plant microbiome.
