Teaching Section Gibson, Phil [1]. Forensic Botany and Fake Barf: A Plant Anatomy Exercise for Intro Biology. Despite its obvious importance as an exciting field of study, plant anatomy is a topic that often receives a less than enthusiastic response from Introductory Biology students, especially those of a non-botanical mindset (we know who they are). To address this problem, I have developed a forensic botany lab that uses stomach content analysis to solve a hypothetical crime involving a possible poisoning. The basic set-up, recipe for fake stomach contents, lab procedure, modifications for additional exercises, and possible assignments are described. Overall, students find the exercise fun and demonstrate increased engagement in the plant anatomy section of the course. Broader Impacts:
